Curiosity about a partner’s history is normal. Acting on all of it rarely improves anything, and some of the most common questions have no good answer.
Ask what you actually need to know
Health, anything ongoing, anything that affects you now — all reasonable. Numbers and comparisons are curiosity dressed up as honesty.
Some answers cannot be unheard
People routinely ask for details they then carry around for years. Before asking, consider what you will do with the answer.
Do not compare, in either direction
Favourable comparisons are as corrosive as unfavourable ones. Both tell your partner they are being measured.
Volunteer what is relevant
Waiting to be asked about something that matters is a technicality, not honesty.
