Living Together Without Losing Desire

Published July 21, 2026

Domestic life is the most common thing desire dies of. It does not have to be.

Nothing kills desire as reliably as becoming co-managers of a household. The problem is rarely the chores themselves — it is that the entire relationship becomes logistics.

Have one conversation a week that is not admin

Most couples living together talk exclusively about arrangements. Deliberately spending time not doing that is unglamorous and effective.

Resentment about housework is a bedroom issue

It is difficult to want someone you feel you are cleaning up after. This is one of the most underrated causes of a dead patch.

Get dressed sometimes

Not a rule, just a fact: couples who never see each other looking like anything other than tired often report exactly what you would expect.

Leave the house together

The same two people in a different room behave differently. It is a cheap intervention and it works far more often than it should.
